While in Bali, if you want to do more than lull away the days on the island’s world-class, white sand beaches, there is a wide variety of activities to please everyone. For the adventurous there’s white water rafting, elephant tours through the Toro forest, surfing, diving, and even volcano climbing. Other popular sites include: Gigit Waterfall, located in the breathtaking countryside outside of Singaraja; Besakih Temple, an ancient Hindu temple located on Mount Agung, one of the highest points on the island; and Penglipuran Village, an exotic village that offers visitors a glimpse into traditional Bali traditions and colorful rituals.
In addition to adventurous Bali attractions and exquisite vistas, the island paradise is known for its warm and gracious people. One of the best ways mingle with the Balinese is to visit a street market where you can sample local cuisine, enjoy traditional music and dance, purchase hand-crafted wares, or just revel in the many colorful sites that make Bali truly unique. Two famous markets to visit are the Denpasar Market and the Kumbasari Market, both located on Gajah Mada Street, one of Bali’s main thoroughfares. Make sure to take along enough Rupiah, the currency of Bali, to purchase plenty of souvenirs!
In all, it’s easy to see why Bali is called the “Island of Gods.” With its temperate climate, exquisite and diverse countryside, bustling markets, and welcoming natives, Bali truly is one of the last paradises in the world.
